Body therapies, such as massage, the Rosen method and traditional Chinese medicine, all build on the idea of the person as a whole. These can be given in addition to talk therapy, or if the client is uncomfortable talking about their psychological/social/physical problems.
These body therapies enable the client to relax and get in touch with his or her underlying emotions and other symptoms. The immune system is free to perform its function when the body is relaxed, and the client gets greater access to his or her natural healthy state. Body therapies are like a channel to a personís inner self without the use of words.
The client may talk about life during or after body therapy if he or she wishes to do so; this may be about the difficult and the painful, as well as happiness and love. Physical relaxation helps bring psychological activity that may be behind physical symptoms to the surface (psychosomatic).
